A2Z: An Ann Arbor Alphabet (First edition)
Illustrated by Bettina Senga. Published by Fifth Avenue Press.
From the iconic Big House to the quirky charm of Kerrytown, discover Ann Arbor in a whole new way! This delightful alphabet book published by the Ann Arbor District Library’s Fifth Avenue Press celebrates the heart and soul of the city with playful illustrations carved by hand. Whether you’re a lifelong resident or dreaming of a visit to your old stomping grounds, let A2Z inspire your love for this special place. Perfect for sharing with little ones (and big kids too)!
Each illustration is a designed, carved, and printed by hand using artist-grade linoleum blocks. Once a design is transferred and re-drawn onto the linoleum block, Bettina uses basic carving tools (mostly a fine u and a fine v) to carve the design. The areas left behind will print as black and the areas carved away will print as white. Once the block is inked up, a piece of paper is pressed onto the block using either a printing press or a spoon. The prints are then hung up to dry.
8.5 x 8.5 inches, glossy paperback, first edition signed/stamped by author.
